La Concha beach
The most classic, the most photographed, the most visited one... We`re talking about La Concha beach, the most central one in the city. La Concha beach is different from the rest; it`s one and a half kilometres of white sand with an elegant, urbane style to it. La Concha is considered to be one of Europe`s loveliest urban beaches. It grew under the stewardship of the Official Summer Residence in the early years of the last century and is known as the Pearl of the Cantabrian Sea. La Concha ornamental railing La Concha ornamental railing is a pure white wrought iron railing separating the city from the beach. It`s one of the city`s most universal icons. Its location and ornamental design make it unmistakeable.

The
The beach on Santa Clara island is expert at appearing and disappearing. Being no more than 30 metres in length, it`s at the mercy of the tides; but that is also what gives the beach its exquisite charm. Being small doesn`t mean being empty for this beach; quite the opposite. The island beach has every kind of amenity, from a bar with a terrace to a lifeguard post; it even boasts a salt water “natural swimming pool”. How does one get there? During the summer a motor launch service departs the port bound for the island`s landing stage every half an hour.

Antilla beach
The beach of Orio was reformed in 1997 and since then, both the beach and the surroundings have considerably changed. The calm is the main feature that offers this beach. Even the most crowded days (Sundays in August), there is always place on the beach; not to mention working days when you enjoy the highest tranquility. After the reform, the beach became bigger, it has a surface of more than 3.500 m2 where people can lie down to sunbathe. By the beach there is a park and a playground for the children, and we cannot forget to mention the long and beautiful walks we can do in the surroundings. There are also bars and restaurants to eat and drink during and after an intense day of sun, beach and walks.

Next to the port, a breakwater separates Gipuzkoa’s last beach from the mouth of the River Bidasoa. Measuring 800 metres in length and situated in a recently re-developed area, Hondarribia beach offers safe bathing and a large sandy area. Either before or after you enjoy the beach itself, we recommend a boat trip to Hendaye on the other side of Txingudi Bay.

Santiago beach
At the point at which the River Urola empties its waters, so rich in history and with echoes of old ironworks, into the sea, lies Arenal de Santiago, a wide sandy area which once served as a much welcomed resting place on the old coastal pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostela. The area is now a large sandy beach with calm waters ideal for bathing. As the sand encroaches on the sea, so the dunes which form a special ecosystem supporting over 50 different plant species also grow.

The beach of Zarautz
Zarautz Beach is the largest in Gipuzkoa and its 2,500 metres make it a multidisciplinary space, with different aspects and people. Families, surfers and nature lovers come together at the same time on this stretch of sand, divided into three zones: the western end, frequented by families and bathers; a central part reserved for surfers and the dunes at the eastern end, which are the habitat for numerous species of flora and fauna. The promenade is the perfect backdrop for this stretch of sand, and it contains sculptures by various artists and a children’s playground. The promenade runs along the whole of the town and extends to the neighbouring town of Getaria along a spectacular esplanade which never turns its back on the sea.

Zurriola beach
Waves, surf and young people. These are the main components that go to make up Zurriola beach, the one with the most movement and ambience in San Sebastian. Situated in the heart of the Gros neighbourhood, between the two cubes of the Kursaal and Mount Ulía, Zurriola beach, since it was redeveloped 15 years ago, has become a favourite destination of surfers and young people from all over the world wanting to have a good time and meet people. People come to the 'Zurri', which is the 'in' name for the beach amongst Donostia`s young people, principally to 'move', to burn off some energy. This dynamism is precisely what give the beach its appeal. Surfing and beach volleyball championships and constant short courses; football and beach tennis matches… the hotbed of beach activity is here, along the 800 metres of shoreline which Zurriola occupies.

Beach of Saturraran, Mutriku
The rocks of Saturraran, with their unmistakable outline, is one of the views that most often draws a click from the tourists camera. At the foot of the bare cliffs, abrupt and vertical because of the erosion of the sea, there is a series of small, secluded coves which have given rise to the name of this stretch of coastline: Seven Beaches. Arbe Cove is the other coastal area of Mutriku of great scenic beauty. Famed for the abundance of fossils, this spot is a favourite for collectors of ammonites and belemnites. Likewise, the waters off the coast - especially near Alkolea - have always attracted anglers and skin divers, as well as scuba divers.
